The 8M0082880 gasket is specially designed for selected Mercury outboard motors from 5 to 20 hp: 5 hp Prop-Gas outboards (serial number 0R936270 and higher), 8/9.9 hp 4-stroke outboards (serial number 0R008146 and higher), as well as 15-20 hp Mercury EFI 4-stroke and Mercury SeaPro outboards (serial number 0R833820 and higher). Replacement is required when changing the gear oil or if the existing gaskets show signs of wear or damage. The gasket is necessary to keep the gear oil in the housing and prevent water from entering. Use only Mercury/Quicksilver gear oil in your Mercury outboards.
